Welcome to the Apogee Scholar Leadership Program’s official homepage! We’ve designed this page to give insight into our wonderful leadership program run through the Office of Student Engagement, along with a special look into Courage Week 2024!
Who are the Apogee Scholars?
The Apogee Scholars are student leaders here at Widener who were awarded the High School Leadership Award during their junior year of high school. Students who are selected as award recipients and elect to attend Widener join our leadership program and receive a scholarship for their undergraduate experience. Apogee Scholars represent a diverse background of students but their true focus is on creating leadership moments, making a difference, and leaving a legacy.
What is the Apogee Scholar Leadership Program?
The Apogee Scholar Program allows students to develop and contextualize theoretical leadership concepts while engaging in experiential learning opportunities within the Widener Community and beyond. Using the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, Apogee Scholars will be able to understand and apply the following tenets:
- leadership is socially responsible and impacts changes on others in the Widener community and beyond;
- collaboration is a key component of all leadership;
- leadership goes beyond holding a position or title;
- leadership is inclusive to all;
- leadership is values-based;
- community involvement is a driving force in leadership.
Through a mixture of signature experiences, engaging curriculum, tailored programs, and community engagement, Apogee Scholars will graduate from Widener with a deep leadership knowledge and transferable skills to be change-makers in their industries, communities and world.
